Mrs. Caroline Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Schifferdecker, was born in St. Clair County, Illinois on February 23, 1868 and passed this life on February 5, 1948. She came to Norborne with her parents when only eight years old and remained until her death.

On October 8, 1888, she was united in marriage to Charles J. Smith who preceded her in death. To this union six children were born, three daughters, Mrs. Rose Goetting, Mrs. Ann Flanigan and Mrs. Gertrude Shoemaker, and two sons, George and Walter Smith who survive. One daughter, Hilda, preceded her in death in infancy.

Those grandchildren surviving are Joan Shoemaker, Smith and Evelyn Goetting, Rosemary Flanigan and Mrs. Carter McKelvan of Waco, Texas.

Mrs. Smith enjoyed a sweet faithful and happy life and our community was saddened to hear of her sudden passing. Her interest were of her family and her community.

Funeral services were held at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Norborne on Monday, February 9, at 9:00 a.m. with Father Micheal Grace officiating at the Mass and Father Linneus Link, assisting.

Pall bearers were Charles Wentzel, Wm. Wegeng, Otis Moentmann, August Witte, Wm. Henks and Francis Link.

Those from out of town to attend the funeral were Mrs. Carter McKelvain of Waco, Texas, Mr. and Mrs. Muriel Whitehill of Decatur, Ill., Mr. Mrs. Feorge Smith of Great Bend, Kansas, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Smith of Skellytown, Texas, Mrs. Valo Norton of Bunker Hill, Kansas, Mr. and Mrs. John Smith of Kansas City, Mo., Mrs. Emma Baker of Kansas City, Mo., Mr. and Mrs. Ezra Moore and family of Independence, Mo., Mr. and Mrs. Carl Pescetto and family of Independence, Mo., and Mrs. J. O. Moore of Morton, Mo., Mrs. Claude York of Morton, Mo., Ella Pitman of Brunswick, Mo., Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Heisel of Brunswick, Mo., Mrs. Roy Heisel of Brunswick, Mo., Mrs. Mabel Carter of Malta Bend, Mo., Mrs. E. M. Bryan of Marshall, Mo., Miss Evelyn Goetting of K. C., Mo., Walter Goetting of Kansas City, Mo., Father Linneus Link of Plattsburg, Mo., and Mrs. Homer Victor of Independence, Mo.
