Title: G. Schifferdekcer Dies at Eighty-nine.

George Schifferdecker, 89 years, 7 months and 2 days old, died at his home a mile west of Norborne, Tuesday morning, March 30th about 6 o'clock. The exact hour of his death is unknown as he passed away while asleep. While Mr. Schifferdecker has been in declining health the past tow years due to the infirmatives of old age, he only took a change for the worst a few days ago.

Mr. Schifferdecker came to Carroll county in August 1868, from Red Bud, St. Clair County, IL, and settled on a 240 acre farm just west of Norborne, now owned by August Moentmann, who bought it in 1908. By hard work and thrift he added to the original purchase until he had about 400 acres of fertile soil as is to be found in the township.

Since the death of his wife, August 3, 1910, he has made his home with his daughter, Mrs. C.J. Smith and family.

Mr. Schifferdecker was a native of Pittsburgh, Allegheny county PA and was born August 28, 1836. At the age of six his parents moved to St. Clair County, IL. Arriving at the age of maturity, he was marred to Hilda Wagner at Red Bud, IL in Feb. 1858, who was born in Baden Germany in 1835. Mrs. Schifferdecker died in Norborne, about fifteen years ago. Mr. & Mrs. Schiffferdecker were the parents of ten children, two sons and two daughters surviving. The children born to this union are: August, who died at Winfield, KS, Mrs. Mary Johnson, Denver CO, Leonard of Norborne, Mrs. Elizabeth Stauffer and Katherine Schifferdecker, both deceased: Cary, wife of Chas J. Smith, Norborne, Susan, Margaret and Matilda Schifferdecker all deceased, and Frank Schifferdecker of Norborne. Aside from these he is survived by 23 grand children and 20 great grandchildren.

Mr. Schifferdecker was an honored and respected resident of Egypt township. He took his full share in the activities of the community as long as he was able. He attained a fine degree of success in life and was ranked among our best citizens. He was a devout member of the Sacred heart Catholic Church, being a member of this religious body all his life.

The funeral services will be held from the Sacred Heart Church, Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock by Father L. H. Kemmer, and burial will be in the Catholic cemetery, southeast of Norborne.
