Title: Mrs. Mary C. Scaggs:

Mary Caldona Gaines Scaggs, daughter of the late William R. and Sarah Ann Woods Cloud, was born on July 31, 1852, near Nashville, Tenn., and passed away at Tawfall, on Route One, Farmington, Mo., on Nov. 17, 1948, aged 96 years, 3 months and 17 days.

She, with her father, William R. Cloud, and older sister, Miss Emmaline, came to Missouri in 1880, and settled in St. Francois County.

She was united in marriage to Alfred Scaggs on Jan. 14, 1893. To this union two children were born, a son, who was dead at birth, and a daughter, Blanche Pearl (Mrs. Mose) Crawford, who passed away in Desloge, Mo., in 1920. She was also preceded in death by her mother when she was a baby, her father and sister, who had tenderly reared her, several years ago, and her husband on Aug. 27 1928. She is survived by three grandchildren, Fred Scaggs, of Weingarten Route One; Carl Crawford, of Doe Run, and Mrs. Brizela Hamors, of St. Louis; 11 great-grandchildren; a sep-so, Wm. R. Scaggs, of Lohrville, Wisc.; a step-daughter, Mrs. James McDonald, of Salem, Mo.; also 31 step-grandchildren; 88 step-great-grandchildren; 23 step-great-great-grandchildren, also a host of other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Scaggs united with the Free Will Baptist Church many years ago and lived a devout Christian life. She was an exemplary woman and was loved and respected by all who knew her. She had been tenderly cared for the past ten years in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Tawfall.

Funeral services will be held at Cozean Funeral Home this Friday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. conducted by Elder C. Moore. Interment will be in the I.O.O.F Cemetery at Doe Run. Cozean Service.
